Another thing, a popup appears, you have to "dismiss it" and in doing so, it maximises/focuses the main PIM window, which you then have to minimise or close. Extremely frustrating when you are concentrating on something, image editing, writing, whatever, and a popup imposes tself, with or without dongs. The only workaround seems to be to change the audio sound file to a short burst of "silence". For example, you cannot disable reminder popups, in some you cannot even disable the sound. Judging by forums on the intenet, I am not alone in decrying the primitive reminder functioanlity. Thse PIM applications seem quite useful and I am trying to get used to both Essential (from a previous giveaway) and Efficcess.īut they all seem to have some pretty basic shortcomings which you wuouldn't epect in a dedicated calendar management tool.įor example, the excruciating reminders functionalty. Scarcity works.Īlso I received the 5-11 error as well on the portable version. Nothing gets people spending like being afraid of missing out on a deal. I know I have upgraded a few of these when there was a carrot dangling in front of me, especially if the discount was time limited. No discount for upgrading? Probably would get more moving from the free version if there was. However if they are security updates then it very well could be. It does depend on what the updates are, if they are just additional functions not really an issue. The version that is included today is already past its sell date this is version 7.66 while the update said they are on currently on 8.4? Not sure how much this matters. If you do not sooner or later you will end up updating by accident and kill the free license. Make sure that you go in to the options and shut off the automatic check for updates. NOTHING about the usage of this portable build seems to be portable! Surely IF it's portable it should create/use the test.epim database in a location on the portable media not on the current host machine!ĮPIM.ini is also in same folder as the tes.epim database as well as preiodic database backups. Also why when I run the portable build for the first time does it create in the current users local personal folders AppData\Roaming\EssentialPIM\test.epim ? If the program is a stable release build it should not need detailed logging to be enabled. It also should not be enabled by default wasting Flash media writes and space for what should be only needed for debugging the program. Also with detailed logging that seems to be enabled by default SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ON THE CURRENT LOGGED IN USERS APPDATA\ROAMING\EssentialPIM\Logs on the host machine but within the portable devices folder structuree relative to the execution location. I know you do because it complained it could not register certain ones as they were already registered elswhere. Here's a suggestion for the portable current version (8.64), by default DO NOT attempt to register system wide keyboard shortcuts.
